Daily Record reports Jack Ross has been shortlisted as one of the leading candidates to become the Scottish FA's chief football officer, replacing Andy Gould, who left for a major role at FIFA. The 49-year-old is currently Newcastle United's head of football strategy.
Ross managed Sunderland from May 2018 to October 2019 after back-to-back relegations to League One. He finished fifth in his first season and lost the play-off final 2-1 to Charlton Athletic. Sunderland also lost the EFL Trophy final to Portsmouth on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
He was dismissed early in 2019/20 with Sunderland sixth, and they finished eighth before promotion a year later. After leaving, he managed Hibernian and Dundee United, reaching a Scottish Cup final. Whether he would quit St James' Park for the SFA role remains unclear.
Former Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will retire at season's end. He made 101 appearances for the Black Cats from 2010 to 2013, kept 33 clean sheets and helped them finish as high as 10th before joining Liverpool.
At Anfield he played 204 times, winning a Champions League winner's medal and finishing runner-up in the Champions League, EFL Cup and Europa League. Now 38, he has spent seven years with Club Brugge, winning four Pro League titles and three domestic cups.
This campaign will be his last. Club Brugge sit second entering the Championship Play-off with 10 matches left. He aims to help them claim a 20th title and a second star, with only Anderlecht on 34 having more.
