New West Brom head coach James Morrison says he has begun talks with a couple of the club’s out-of-contract players, with decisions to be taken alongside the recruitment staff.
As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, Morrison was appointed on a permanent basis on Thursday and will oversee Saturday lunchtime’s Championship finale at Sheffield Wednesday.
Six senior players see their deals run out at the end of June and Morrison indicated discussions will continue, adding that he will give his view within the club’s process. The likelihood is that most of that group will depart when their contracts expire.
The expiring group comprises attackers Jed Wallace, Karlan Grant, Daryl Dike and Josh Maja, plus goalkeepers Max O’Leary and Joe Wildsmith.
Club captain Wallace has returned to training and is in contention to feature at Hillsborough, which may be a farewell appearance for him and some team-mates.
Recruitment is led by director of football operations Ian Pearce, with new technical director Dominic Price and Morrison involved, a structure executive director Mark Miles confirmed at Friday’s press conference.
