Morrison, a club great, has agreed a permanent two-year deal after steering Albion clear of Championship relegation.

Gill, 45, Kent-born and a former midfielder, joined on a short-term basis when Morrison was initially appointed to the end of the season. He has been credited as an influential presence behind the scenes.

Albion have yet to confirm Gill’s future beyond the summer. The former Walsall loanee has mostly worked as Russell Martin’s assistant at MK Dons, Swansea, Southampton and Rangers, and Martin is currently out of work.

Morrison would also like statistical analyst Damia Abella and goalkeeper coach Boaz Myhill to remain, stressing there is a process the club will follow.

Gill is based in Norwich, which could influence any call. He is understood to have livened up sessions at the Walsall HQ, with possession-focused drills particularly popular among the players.
