Jermain Defoe has been appointed Woking manager, with Paul Bracewell named as his assistant.
According to PA, the former England striker joins the National League club after recent links to a possible return to Tottenham.
Defoe said the club has history and significant potential, calling the project exciting and adding he is eager to get started.
Chairman Todd Johnson said Defoe’s playing record stands on its own, and that the interview process highlighted his game understanding, standards, leadership and focus on player development. He added the club has a clear plan and believes Defoe can build on strong foundations in the next phase.
Bracewell will work alongside interim bosses Craig Ross and Jake Hyde, with Dale Gorman also part of the backroom staff. Ross and Hyde will lead Tuesday’s home league match against Altrincham.
Defoe previously coached in Tottenham’s academy and was part of a four-man caretaker set-up at Rangers in 2021. As a player he featured for West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland, and scored 20 goals in 57 England appearances.
