João Ricardo ‘to undergo’ medical at Corinthians as deal nears | OneFootball

Corinthians are close to signing Fortaleza goalkeeper João Ricardo, with medical tests planned early this week.

According to TNT Sports, the 37-year-old is expected to undergo tests on Monday to formalise the agreement. The transfer still depends on him passing.

He had right-shoulder surgery in October last year and spent about four months out. In February he shared ball work on social media, showing recovery progress.

A deal was outlined in January, and the club waited for the final rehab stage before signing. Any announcement is tied to medical sign-off.

João Ricardo is seen as experienced cover for Hugo Souza. He worked under Dorival Júnior at Ceará in 2022, and the coach had flagged the need for an understudy.

For now, Felipe Longo is Souza’s deputy, Matheus Donelli is on loan in the United Arab Emirates, and Kauê is third choice.

Corinthians have been active this window, adding Gabriel Paulista, Pedro Milans, Fabrizio Angileri, Matheus Pereira, Allan and Zakaria Labyad, plus Kaio César. They also have a deal lined up to sign English midfielder Jesse Lingard.
