Out-on-loan Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has again hinted at a permanent Hull City move after promotion to the Premier League. The 24-year-old scored 15 this season, netting in the 2-0 semi-final at Millwall, then came off the bench at Wembley as Hull beat Middlesbrough, with Oli McBurnie winning it deep into added time.
Asked whether he would sign permanently, Gelhardt said: "It's a good question, isn't it? Let's see what happens over the summer, but it's pretty clear what I want to do," he told Hull Live.
Hull have no option to buy due to a recent transfer embargo, with last summer’s arrivals limited to loans or free agents. Preparation for Southampton proved redundant amid last week’s spygate drama when they were expelled, yet Sergej Jakirovic’s side still went up.
"It's amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club, I'm buzzing, I'm absolutely buzzing. It just shows what can happen in 12 months."
Leeds initially sought £3-4million for Gelhardt last summer, a figure that could rise after his prolific season and Hull’s promotion. Any fee above £1m would be profit for Elland Road. He will return after a short break for talks, with one year left on his deal.
