Joe Gelhardt has restated his desire to remain at Hull City after playing a key part in the Tigers’ return to the Premier League.

"It's a good question, isn't it? Let's see what happens over the summer, but it's pretty clear what I want to do," he said, speaking to Hull Live.

On loan from Leeds United, he scored 14 goals and added five assists to fire City into the play-offs. He struck the second goal in the semi-final win at Millwall, then featured late on in the 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Wembley.

The 24-year-old first arrived on loan last January, helping City avoid relegation to League One. He rejoined in the summer and has become a firm favourite in the East Riding.

With one year left on his Leeds contract, he is anticipated to be allowed to leave West Yorkshire this summer, and City may now look to secure him permanently for their top-flight return.

"It's amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club, I'm buzzing, I'm absolutely buzzing. It just shows what can happen in 12 months. Under the situations we had, with the embargo, we were always at a disadvantage; everybody had written us off, now we've proved everyone wrong, and now we're off to the Premier League."
