Former Nigerian national team captain John Obi Mikel has urged the Super Eagles to aim for nothing less than victory at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The message was shared shortly after the Nigeria Football Federation announced the final 28-man squad for the tournament.
Taking to Instagram, the ex-Chelsea midfielder, who lifted the AFCON trophy as captain in 2013, expressed his full backing with the words: “Bring it home lads.” His call to action arrives at a crucial juncture, as the team looks to rebuild momentum following the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The final selection was trimmed down from an initial 55-player roster, with notable omissions including Christantus Uche, Maduka Okoye, and Tolu Arokodare. Alongside established veterans, the squad features a number of new call-ups, injecting fresh dynamism into the side. This blend of experience and emerging talent will be key as Nigeria sets its sights on a fourth continental title.
