Jordan James’ injury has pushed Leicester City towards targeting an attacking midfielder this month, potentially ahead of a striker in the window.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the club’s top scorer will miss at least four weeks, while Aaron Ramsey remains out until late February, leaving Marti Cifuentes light in midfield.

The manager wants a signing who can operate as both a number eight and a number 10, noting the need is reinforced by James’ absence.

With Cifuentes describing a completely different reality in the market, business may be limited, and if there is only one arrival, an attacking midfielder could take precedence.

City now have four players to cover three midfield roles, Hamza Choudhury, Boubakary Soumare, Louis Page and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Harry Winks is fit but has not featured since November and does not appear close to a return, with Cifuentes selecting his best 11 each week.

He acknowledged Winks has not been part of that group and suggested it might be a good moment for all parties to find something, adding he has not supplied the minutes the player is seeking.
