Daniel Banjaqui has signed a new Benfica contract to 2031 with a €80m release clause, and José Sousa says Alexander Bah or Amar Dedic could depart this summer.
"It makes perfect sense, wasting is not an option," he told Rádio Renascença.
"Alexander Bah or Amar Dedic could leave. That would be the logic. Wasting, letting talented players go, makes no sense at all."
The young full-back turned down several leading European clubs and promises to be an important part of the club’s future.
He underlined the influence of Nicolás Otamendi in the group.
"They are players who know what is needed, especially after so much time alongside Otamendi. If Otamendi stays, the problem is solved. Otherwise, Benfica have to go to the market."
"Three starting centre-backs are necessary. Always. For a team like Benfica that fights for several competitions."
