Liverpool Transfers: Anthony Gordon and Bazoumana Toure Discussed on Reds’ Radar

Transfer planning was another major talking point on the latest Media Matters podcast from Anfield Index, as Dave Davis and Lewis Steele examined Liverpool’s reported interest in Anthony Gordon and Bazoumana Toure.

With Liverpool expected to reshape the squad this summer, both names were raised as possible options, although Steele made it clear that neither situation appears advanced at this stage.

Bazoumana Toure

Davis reminded listeners that Steele had previously mentioned Toure before wider reports emerged, asking about fresh links to the Hoffenheim winger.

Steele responded cautiously, saying, “I think they’ve scouted him. I think they’ve scouted quite a lot of players, to be honest. So that’s not really saying much.”

That suggests Liverpool’s interest may be at an early monitoring stage rather than active pursuit. However, Steele did note why the player could appeal, adding, “That one would make sense. And he’s not too expensive.”

He also stressed timing remains important, concluding, “It’s probably early days on that one.”

For Liverpool, that places Toure in the category of a developing option rather than an immediate priority.

Anthony Gordon

The conversation then moved to Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, a player long linked with Liverpool. Steele acknowledged there could be movement involving Newcastle’s finances.

“Newcastle do have to sell based on PSR,” he said, before adding, “They will have to sell a player.”

That financial context naturally keeps Gordon in transfer discussions, but Steele raised doubts over whether Newcastle would sanction a deal to Liverpool.

“Would Newcastle sell to Liverpool again after the whole Isak thing? That’s what puts me off, basically.”

Even so, he was more positive on Gordon’s quality than some critics. “I do think Gordon is a good player, not as bad as some people make out.”

Steele added a personal observation that whenever he watches Gordon, “he seems to score,” highlighting the winger’s ability to impact major matches.

Liverpool Weighing Priorities This Summer

While both names were discussed, Steele made clear Liverpool have several urgent needs elsewhere in the squad. Forward reinforcements, midfield additions and defensive decisions are all expected to shape the summer window.

That means any move for Gordon or Toure may depend on outgoings, budget and how Liverpool prioritise other positions first.

Still, Steele stopped short of dismissing either link entirely, saying, “I wouldn’t put a red cross through either of those just yet.”

For Liverpool supporters tracking transfer developments, that leaves the door open on both Anthony Gordon and Bazoumana Toure, even if neither deal currently looks close.
