Napoli remain active in the transfer market as they aim to secure a high-profile striker ahead of the new season. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the club are in ongoing talks with Udinese for Lorenzo Lucca, targeting a fee of around €33 to €34 million. Negotiations are advancing, although an agreement has yet to be finalised.

At the same time, Napoli have not given up on Darwin Núñez. The Serie A side have submitted an offer of €50 million plus €5 million in bonuses to Liverpool for the Uruguay international. Reports suggest a proposed salary package of €5 to €6 million net per season has been tabled.

Núñez’s valuation and wage demands are understood to be nearly double those of Lucca. The ultimate decision on which forward to prioritise will rest with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who must weigh the cost against the calibre of each option. While Lucca represents a domestic acquisition with lower risk and financial burden, Núñez would be a marquee signing with Champions League pedigree.

Darwin Núñez arrived with fanfare but has yet to fully convince under the spotlight of Anfield. While his numbers have been decent, the lack of consistency in front of goal has left fans divided. If Napoli’s offer is serious, it might finally test the club’s resolve.
The potential €55 million package shows Napoli’s intent, but Liverpool will not be rushed. This is still a forward who presses relentlessly, occupies defenders and has shown flashes of brilliance. Arne Slot may yet believe he can unlock Núñez’s full potential.
On the other hand, if the club can recoup most of the fee spent in 2022 and reinvest in a more composed finisher, it could be a shrewd decision. Much will depend on Slot’s vision and Núñez’s willingness to be part of it.
Supporters are watching closely. If this is the beginning of a transition in Liverpool’s frontline, fans will want to see a clear plan and a replacement who fits both the system and the club’s expectations.
