Juan Sartori hailed Sunderland’s historic European qualification with an emotional message after victory over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.
Posting a family photo from the pitch, Sartori said in a post that it ranked among the best moments of his life and that Sunderland were in the Europa League.
Régis Le Bris’ side finished seventh in the Premier League, a year after winning promotion through the Championship play-offs.
Sartori, a significant figure alongside Kyril Louis-Dreyfus in the ownership group, joined on-pitch celebrations with his family as supporters savoured the moment. The ownership backed the squad heavily last summer and saw that ambition rewarded.
It is Sunderland’s first European qualification since 1973-74, ending a 53-year wait for continental football. It is also only their fifth top-flight top-10 finish in 70 years and completes a rise from League One to Europe in four years.
