Real Madrid have been handed a significant boost after concerns over Thibaut Courtois’ injury were eased following medical examinations at Valdebebas.

According to journalist Arancha Rodriguez, the Belgian goalkeeper has not suffered a serious injury, with tests ruling out any major damage after the problem he picked up during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The update will come as welcome news for Jose Mourinho and the Real Madrid coaching staff, who were anxiously awaiting the results after Courtois returned to the club’s training complex.

Rather than facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the experienced goalkeeper is now expected to complete his scheduled holiday before rejoining the squad for pre-season preparations.

Medical tests rule out serious injury

Questions over Thibaut Courtois’ fitness emerged during Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to Spain.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper went down midway through the second half after appearing to feel discomfort in his thigh.

Although he initially looked capable of continuing following the cooling break, he was eventually substituted in the 71st minute and replaced by Senne Lammens.

The sight of Courtois leaving the pitch sparked fears that he could miss the opening weeks of the club season, particularly after early speculation suggested a recovery period of between four and eight weeks.

Those concerns have now eased considerably.

According to Arancha Rodriguez, the scans carried out at Valdebebas confirmed there is no serious muscle injury, allowing the Belgian to proceed with his planned break before reporting back for duty.

Mourinho receives timely boost

The positive diagnosis means Mourinho can continue planning for the new season with considerably more confidence.

Having already welcomed several players to training, the Portuguese coach was facing the possibility of beginning the campaign without one of his most influential figures.

Instead, Thibaut Courtois is expected to return to Real Madrid after his holiday, giving the club every reason to believe he will be available when preparations intensify.
