According to Tutto Juve, former Sunderland target Jhon Lucumí is attracting interest from Juventus, Roma and Bournemouth, his €28million, about £24.6million, clause runs until mid-July, and Bologna could later negotiate at €20-22million, roughly £17.5-19.3million.
Sunderland considered the Bologna centre-back a leading target after promotion to the Premier League. The club were understood to have lodged bids and wage proposals, and the player was believed to be open at one stage.
Bologna, having lost other key defenders, were reluctant to sell and the move collapsed. Sunderland chose not to revisit the deal in January.
The 27-year-old joined from Genk in 2022 and has become integral. He has made 149 appearances, helped secure Champions League qualification and lifted the Coppa Italia in 2024-25.
This season he recorded a team-high 168 defensive contributions in Serie A, averaging 1.4 interceptions and 0.5 blocks per 90 minutes, ranking first and second among Bologna players. His aggression, experience and comfort in possession help explain Sunderland’s earlier interest, qualities likely to appeal to Régis Le Bris and his recruitment team.
With one year left on his contract, Bologna face a decision over whether to cash in this summer or risk diminished value later.
