Manchester City have put the rest of the Club World Cup on notice as they thrashed Italian giants Juventus 5-2 to top their group and potentially avoid Real Madrid in the next round.

City started as they meant to continue and took the lead through a smart Jeremy Doku finish, made by the vision of Rayan Ait-Nouri. However, an Ederson blunder gave Juventus a reprieve, gifting Teun Koopmeiners an equaliser within just two minutes of taking the lead.

Pep Guardiola's promptly regained control and soon the lead through a horror own goal from Pierre Kalulu, before substitute Erling Haaland made it three after the break.

Goals from Phil Foden and Savinho - a thunderous strike - took the game out of sight for The Old Lady, even if Dusan Vlahovic fired in a consolation late on, with City sealing a statement win to top Group H and end the group stage as the only team to have won all three games.

So where does this leave us?

Well, barring a shock result for RB Salzburg against Real Madrid, it looks like Man City have found themselves on the easier side of the draw, avoiding the Galacticos.

At the moment, their biggest obstacles between them and the Club World Cup final in New York are Inter Milan, who they could face in the quarters, and fellow Premier League challengers Chelsea, who they could meet in the semis.

Juventus, meanwhile, are on the side of the bracket with PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and, likely, Real Madrid.

Both sides will be in round of 16 action on July 1. We’ll see you then!

It might’ve been a bit of a dead rubber in the context of the competition, but Al Ain have made history of their own as they became the first Asian team to win a game in the reinvented Club World Cup.

They came from behind to beat Wydad AC and finish third in Group H - a positive way to bid farewell to the tournament.
