The Ligue 1 side opened the scoring inside three minutes as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia delivered a low cross into the box for Ousmane Dembele to score.

Bayern came close to equalising in the 27th minute. Harry Kane picked out Michael Olise, who curled an effort narrowly past the top corner.

The Bavarians had a penalty call turned down after the half-hour mark, when Vitinha’s clearance hit Joao Neves’ hand, which was deemed to be in its natural position.

Neves then called Manuel Neuer into action. The German goalkeeper brilliantly tipped the midfielder’s header behind.

Bayern finished the first half brightly, with Jamal Musiala forcing Matvey Safonov to make two saves in close succession, before Jonathan Tah sent a free header wide.

Neuer had to be alert early on in the second half, pushing Desire Doue’s shot at the near post. Moments later, he stretched his leg to keep out Kvaratskhelia’s strike.

He produced another brilliant stop in the 63rd minute, diving to prevent Doue from doubling the visitors’ advantage.

Luis Diaz and Olise stung Safonov’s palms as Bayern kept pushing for the equaliser.

Kvaratskhelia almost sealed the victory after running through, but he could not make proper contact with the ball.

Kane made it 1-1 in stoppage time, but it was too late for Bayern to complete the turnaround.
