Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has been nominated for the Premier League Save of the Season after a reflex stop in the 3-0 win over Wolves at Elland Road.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Darlow’s effort features on a shortlist alongside Manchester City’s James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Arsenal’s David Raya, Newcastle United’s Aaron Ramsdale and Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky.
On 18 April, Wolves nearly struck from a clever corner, the delivery from the right was glanced goalwards by Ladislav Krejčí. Moving the other way, Darlow flashed out a glove to tip the ball up and over the bar.
One year after being parachuted into the XI to steady the goalkeeping debate and help seal promotion, the Wales international did it again when Daniel Farke took first-choice Lucas Perri out of the spotlight. The 35-year-old offered assurance and sharper distribution, and across 17 Premier League appearances from 17 January suffered only four defeats and kept five clean sheets as Leeds pulled clear of relegation trouble.
Kinsky is recognised for denying Leeds late in the season, when James Justin nutmegged a defender to tee up Sean Longstaff and the midfielder’s fierce strike was turned onto the crossbar at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
