Bayer Leverkusen are planning to pip Manchester United to Bosnian wonderkid Kerim Alajbegovic.
The German-born forward is considered one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most gifted talents, having already broken several records.
Back in September, the 18-year-old became the youngest ever player to make an appearance for the Bosnian national team. He added another record to his collection by scoring a goal on his debut against San Marino in a World Cup qualifier.
Alajbegovic left Leverkusen’s academy in the summer to join RB Salzburg.
Known for his technical prowess and versatility, Alajbegovic has already established himself as a key player at Salzburg. He has four goals and an assist to his name in 11 league appearances in Austria.
After turning 18 in September, he was rewarded with a contract extension until 2029 by the Red Bull outfit. However, his long-term future at the club is far from certain.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are interested in Alejbegovic.
Now, SportBILD (via Sport Witness) add that United have been “intensively” scouting the Salzburg youngster. However, Leverkusen intend to thwart their plans.
The German publication report that the Bundesliga giants are aware of United’s interest and plan to make a move for their youth product.
Leverkusen sold their highly-rated attacker to Salzburg in a deal worth €2m.
However, they secured a buy-back option for 2026 and 2027, thought to be valued between €5m and €6m next summer. Leverkusen are prepared to pay that figure after seeing Alejbegovic’s “extraordinary development”.
Meanwhile, United are believed to be also closely watching another Red Bull sensation, Yan Diomande, who is enjoying a phenomenal campaign at RB Leipzig.
