Matchday 22 of LaLiga EA Sports brought immediate controversy, with Oviedo v Girona producing two disputed red card incidents that were not punished.

According to AS, the first flashpoint arrived in the opening minutes when Colombatto lunged into a forceful tackle on Vanat, yet the referee did not even produce a yellow card.

Iturralde González judged it a clear red for a studs-up challenge to the ankle and said VAR should have intervened. He added that, by going to ground, the body becomes a weapon, and noted a previously missed red in Real Sociedad v Celta.

Later, Oviedo demanded a dismissal for Vanat, the Ukrainian forward, after he used his arm while contesting a through ball with David Costas, catching the defender on the nose. Costas, bleeding, appealed for a red, but the decision stood and there was no booking.

Both incidents intensified the weekend debate on officiating, with neither challenge leading to a card on the pitch.
