Lamine Yamal sends last-minute jersey number request to Barcelona | OneFootball

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has asked those behind the scenes at the club to delay the announcement of his new squad number until a later date.

That’s according to Blaugrana insider Gerard Romero, who has on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

It has of course long been common knowledge that wide-man Lamine is set to inherit a new squad number this summer.

Following the departure of Ansu Fati to Monaco, the famed no.10 shirt in Hansi Flick’s squad has become available once more.

The plan on the part of the Camp Nou hierarchy, in turn, had been to announce Lamine as Barca’s latest ’10’ over the coming 24 hours.

As alluded to above, however, the 17-year-old himself appears to have different plans…

As per a report from Gerard Romero of Jijantes:

‘Lamine Yamal has requested to postpone the announcement of his new jersey number until his (18th) birthday, July 13, when he signs his renewal.

‘Barça’s initial plan was to officialize their new 10 before the launch of the new jersey, tomorrow July 2.’
