Lazio have made a significant step in their path towards acquiring the Stadio Flaminio, which they intend to renovate and adopt as their new home.

Lazio Working on Stadio Flaminio Project

The Biancocelesti have been sharing the Stadio Olimpico with their crosstown rivals, Roma, for decades, but they now intend to own a new stadium surrounded by modern facilities, thus enabling the fans to enjoy daily activities, as well as a more comfortable matchday experience. Therefore, the club has identified the currently defunct Stadio Flaminio as the ideal ground for their project.

Claudio Lotito Reaches an Accord with the Mayor of Rome

Lazio had already received the initial green light to start planning their project. According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the club’s president, Claudio Lotito, held talks with the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, who agreed to grant Lazio’s request of a 99-year surface-right concession for the Flaminio area.

The source thus describes it as a fundamental step towards acquiring the land, although the legal process remains long. At the moment, the team of experts hired by Lotito are putting the final touches on the stadium plan, making the necessary adjustments to adhere to the legal requirements. Afterwards, the Biancocelesti will present their plan to the municipality of Rome.

Lazio Gradually Overcoming Legal Hurdles

Once this step is made, Lazio must wait for at least two months, which is the legally mandated period for others to present alternative projects. If no other serious projects surface, Lazio’s plans will be carefully assessed by the City Council, which will make a decision on the matter.

While the bureaucratic process remains long and exhausting, Lazio fans can at least rest assured that the club is on the right path.
