Lazio have long-term plans for Oliver Provstgaard, who’s expected to play a prominent role at the club in the coming years.
The Biancocelesti spent €4.5 million to buy the towering centre-back from Vejle BK in February 2025. Last season, the Dane seldom featured for Marco Baroni’s side, as he slowly adjusted to Italian football. But this term, he was a regular feature under Maurizio Sarri, cementing himself as the manager’s first option off the bench behind Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli.
The Copenhagen native made 26 appearances in Serie A and in the Coppa Italia. According to Transfermarket, his value has tripled from €2.5 million when he first joined the club to €7.5 million. Therefore, Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) expects Claudio Lotito and Company to reward Provstgaard with a new and improved contract.
The Denmark international’s current contract is valid until June 2029, and it earns him a yearly net salary of €500,000. The Roman newspaper expects Lazio to adjust his payday, offering him wages that are more aligned with his growing importance at the club.
While incoming Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso is urging Romagnoli to stay at the club, the latter could end up joining his longtime suitors, Al-Sadd, or another foreign club in the summer. In this case, the left-footed Provstgaard would be the 31-year-old natural replacement at the back, having already proven himself as a competent and reliable defender.
