Lazio have been dealt a major setback after Nicolo Rovella fractured his collarbone in Saturday’s meeting with Cagliari.
Il Corriere dello Sport reports the midfielder could be sidelined for around 45 days.
It has been a miserable campaign for the 24-year-old, who first stopped in September with a groin problem. He initially pursued conservative treatment, then underwent surgery in November.
Rovella had recently returned and was working towards the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta. Maurizio Sarri restored him to the starting line-up in Sardinia.
After a challenge from defender Ze Pedro, he landed awkwardly on his shoulder and was in clear discomfort. He received brief treatment and tried to continue, but the pain forced him off for Danilo Cataldi.
On that timescale, a return in April looks most likely. In the meantime, Cataldi will continue to anchor the regista role as Lazio look to avoid further injury setbacks.
