Bournemouth have reportedly tried to sign Christos Mandas but failed to convince Lazio, who opted to take back the player.

The Greek goalkeeper is coming off a miserable campaign, making a single appearance across all competitions. Maurizio Sarri, who preferred Ivan Provedel, only played Mandas in the Coppa Italia victory over AC Milan.

In January, the 24-year-old joined Bournemouth on loan for €2.5 million with an option to buy for another €17.5 million. However, he failed to make a single appearance for the English club, as Andoni Iraola kept faith in the tried-and-trusted Djordje Petrovic.

Lazio Reject Bournemouth’s €15m Offer for Mandas

On Monday, the purchase clause expired, suggesting that the Greek international will rejoin Lazio. But according to Il Messaggero, the Cherries were willing to keep Mandas for €15 million. However, the Italian capital side rejected the proposal.

Mandas Will Be The First Choice at Lazio

The Italian newspaper confirms that incoming Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso would like to entrust Mandas with a starting role next season. The young Edoardo Motta will act as his understudy after impressing in the final three months of the campaign, while Alessio Furlanetto should maintain his role as the third-choice goalkeeper.

Ivan Provedel Heading to Inter Milan

On the contrary, Ivan Provedel is seemingly on his way out of Formello. The 32-year-old has reportedly agreed terms with Inter Milan, who identified him as the ideal profile to replace Yann Sommer and serve as a backup for Josep Martinez, who has been promoted to the No.1 role. The two clubs are currently negotiating a deal, but have yet to settle on a transfer fee.
