This Sunday’s much-anticipated Classique between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Vélodrome is expected to go ahead despite a weather warning in the south of France – according to Le Parisien and RMC Sport.
The Bouches-du-Rhône department has been placed on orange alert by Météo France, with heavy storms forecast from late afternoon onwards. The neighbouring Vaucluse and Drôme departments are also affected. For now, however, the authorities insist that the conditions pose no risk to the 20:45 kick-off.
Local officials are monitoring the situation closely, according to RMC Sport – particularly in light of the large movement of supporters across the region. The LFP, the clubs, and broadcasters remain in contact with the authorities in case of a late development, but as it stands, no postponement or delay is being considered.
The Classique will be the first meeting between the two sides since PSG’s historic Champions League triumph earlier this year. Luis Enrique’s side travel south in ominous form, unbeaten in Ligue 1 and fresh from a dominant display against Atalanta in Europe. Meanwhile OM were encouraged despite a defeat to Real Madrid last Tuesday. GFFN | George Boxall
