Leeds United have intensified their move for Shea Charles, with a fresh bid on the table. According to the Daily Mail, Leeds have submitted an offer worth an initial £23m plus add-ons.
An opening proposal of around £20m last month was not accepted by Southampton, and talks are understood to be ongoing. Premier League side Crystal Palace are also credited with interest.
Southampton value the midfielder at £30m, but Leeds hope performance-related add-ons can bridge the gap. That would put the extras below £7m, though no exact figure is reported.
Manchester City inserted a 15 per cent sell-on when selling Charles to Southampton in 2023, along with buyback rights to match any accepted bid. It is not clear whether the 15 per cent applies to the full fee or only profit on the £15m outlay. Either way, a meaningful slice of any deal would be forwarded by the St Mary’s hierarchy.
Charles was a key figure in the Championship last season for Southampton. At 22, the Northern Ireland international fits Leeds’ plan to strengthen midfield under Daniel Farke. The latest move signals intent, with negotiations continuing.
