Daniel Farke has offered a read between the lines indication on Karl Darlow’s future at Leeds United, with the veteran goalkeeper out of contract this summer.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds paid around £14m for Lucas Perri last summer and Farke installed him as first choice, yet as the season closes Darlow, 35, has the Premier League shirt and Perri, the FA Cup keeper, is number two.

Illan Meslier has been third choice since errors in last season’s promotion race, his deal is up this summer and a parting of the ways is certain. Farke would like to keep Darlow.

Farke said he will only address futures once objectives are confirmed, but his stance on Darlow is clear. He has turned to him in crunch periods and currently prefers him ahead of the highly rated Perri, who impressed in the cup.

He hailed Darlow’s recent form and character, stressing the strong mutual trust, and suggested supporters could read between the lines.

Wales’ number one has put himself in a strong negotiating position for the summer, and will have interest and offers from elsewhere after recent Premier League displays. It remains to be seen whether Leeds would keep him as first choice if they stay up and strengthen to consolidate next season, though Farke’s desire is to continue working with the veteran.
