Leeds United have confirmed Max Wöber has left the club after a mutual contract termination. He signed a four-and-a-half year deal following a £10m move from RB Salzburg in January 2023, which had been due to run until next summer.

The club said in a statement that the Austrian featured 19 times in his debut season across all competitions and now departs Elland Road on a permanent basis.

After relegation in 2023 he activated a release clause to join Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.

Wöber returned for the Championship title-winning 2024/25 campaign, making eight league appearances and scoring once, then moved to Werder Bremen on loan last term. He suffered a serious knee injury on his debut for the Bundesliga side and played only three times.

He is close to joining Schalke on a free transfer after undergoing medical tests.
