Leeds United are working to strengthen in the final fortnight of the January window and hope to make at least one more signing before it shuts next month.
Werder Bremen midfielder Romano Schmid has been linked, but any move is regarded as unlikely unless circumstances change dramatically.
One deal is done, Facundo Buonanotte has joined on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton see the switch as valuable game time for the Argentina international and expect to welcome him back in the summer.
Joe Rothwell was a key figure in Leeds’ Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League. The then-Bournemouth midfielder made 39 appearances, including 24 league starts, as Daniel Farke’s side held off Burnley.
After missing the last seven games of that campaign he returned to Bournemouth, then moved to Rangers for a cut-price fee. He has made 20 appearances this season, with three assists and no goals.
“He had a great season at Leeds United. You really thought he would come up here and hit the ground running, and it has not quite worked for him. We need to see him switching play and not playing the easy pass all the time.”
Alan Hutton told Premier Sports.
