Leeds United’s summer priorities include left-footed cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson, a need Daniel Farke flagged in January. Supporters therefore already know one target area.
According to Leeds Live, the window opens in under a fortnight and Farke has warned business could be squeezed towards the latter stages because of the World Cup.
As it stands, three goalkeepers are set to depart when contracts expire at the end of the month. Karl Darlow is expected to be invited for renewal talks, while Illan Meslier is let go.
Freiburg have enquired about Wilfried Gnonto and further approaches are not expected to stop, after only four Premier League starts this season. Joel Piroe is widely expected to leave, having not started a league game since August following January interest.
After Jack Harrison’s loan to Fiorentina, Leeds were left without a left-footed understudy to Gudmundsson. Farke said in January that if a perfect option emerged for that role, they would be alert.
Fiorentina are not expected to trigger Harrison’s £6m buy-out clause, yet his Leeds future still looks perilous and he could ask to leave. James Justin has covered well but does not offer Gudmundsson’s attacking vigour, so the need persists.
Jayden Lienou, 18, has been called into the Wales senior squad this week despite being yet to debut for the first team, and could emerge in the years ahead. Even so, Leeds may face the same issue as January if Harrison, as seems likely, exits Elland Road.
