Leeds United have added Facundo Buonanotte this month and could still act before the deadline, with a striker the priority and defensive cover a conditional consideration.
According to Leeds Live, Daniel Farke will not swell numbers and says only one or two further additions could be approved if they improve the squad, fit the character and are affordable. With PSR thresholds essentially maxed out, loans are likelier unless someone is sold.
Interest has centred on Jorgen Strand Larsen, and as of Wednesday morning Wolves had not replied to Leeds’ enquiry. Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are among rivals circling, with other bottom-half clubs likely looking too, which weakens United’s hand. Wolves might cash in now for more than in summer if they drop, though there is no assurance they will sell.
Creating headroom could mean selling Joel Piroe, who has not started a league game since August. Funds could support an amortised permanent deal or a loan with a summer view to buy, depending on Wolves’ price for Larsen, whose agent is a Leeds season ticket holder. Piroe is not seeking a January move and the club will not force him out.
Defence is not a focus unless Jaka Bijol’s hamstring recovery, estimated at three to five weeks, suffers a setback. The use of three centre-halves has stretched resources, with four specialists, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw, plus cover from James Justin, Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram. If timings slip the club would look late for a loan or free agent, otherwise no central addition is expected.
