Leeds United's 0-0 draw with Brentford was framed by an act of remembrance for Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, as Elland Road united in solidarity, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports.
Before kick-off, supporters and family representatives gathered outside as the anniversary nears. Chairman Paraag Marathe and CEO Robbie Evans laid wreaths by the East Stand, then thunderous applause greeted tributes inside before a mass turning of backs, the Leeds United tradition.
On the pitch it was a bruising watch. Brenden Aaronson toiled, frequently running into red and white walls with little coming off. The international break might help, or he may need a breather if Daniel Farke freshens midfield options.
With Leeds slinging crosses, Willy Gnonto remained unused. The night felt short of flair, yet Farke did not turn to him. He will not join Italy during the break and stays on the fringes, though his season could still ignite.
For neutrals it was a poor spectacle. Too many Premier League games are dominated by set-pieces and aerial battles, with tactical timeouts increasingly common. This felt another bad advert.
Brentford formed a huddle before warming up, then worked in a back five shape. Stuart Dallas joined Marathe pitchside during the warm-up.
Ethan Ampadu and Nathan Collins greeted family representatives and laid wreaths before the West Stand. Ao Tanaka apologised to the Kop after blazing over into the front two rows. Ampadu complained to referee Jarred Gillett about Kevin Schade's challenges, then spoke to the forward, and Farke raged after Aaronson punted one aimlessly.
