Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha told supporters he would "try" to keep investing after the club’s relegation to League One.
Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Hull confirmed the drop to the third tier for only the second time in City’s history. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, fans jeered and protested outside the King Power Stadium reception for more than an hour after full-time.
Speaking to the crowd, Top said he had stayed 15 years and put in a lot of money, and when asked if that would continue he replied, "I will try."
City have posted losses of more than £270m across the past four years of accounts, raising concern over how they will absorb the sharp fall in revenue in League One. The club have also used Australian bank Macquarie for loans to aid cash flow.
Reflecting on relegation, he called it a bad day and said he would not blame anyone else, adding that he and the players tried but it was not enough. He urged understanding and said the focus should be on what comes next, repeating, "I will try."
In a statement earlier on Tuesday, he accepted responsibility and said necessary decisions would be taken to rebuild, improve and restore Leicester City’s standards, with the aim of responding strongly and moving the club forward again.
