Lens’ Sage named Ligue 1 manager of the season | OneFootball

Pierre Sage has been named Ligue 1 Manager of the Season. The RC Lens manager was handed the award at Monday night’s UNFP ceremony in Paris. 

Last season, under Will Still, Lens finished outside of the European places entirely. This season, Les Sang et Or have run reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain close for the title. With two games remaining, there is still a mathematical chance of dethroning PSG, however, a draw for Luis Enrique’s side would be enough for Les Parisiens to retain their crown. 

However, one thing that Sage will win that Luis Enrique will not is the Ligue 1 Manager of the Season award. The Frenchman beat Luis Enrique, as well as Olympique Lyonnais Paulo Fonseca, Lille OSC’s Bruno Genesio, and FC Lorient’s Olivier Pantaloni to the award.

There could yet be further silverware for Sage before the end of the season. Lens will face OGC Nice in the final of the Coupe de France later this month.
