Leny Yoro joined Manchester United in the summer but has yet to make his competitive debut after breaking his foot in pre-season.

The French centre-back, who cost £52m in the summer as United beat Real Madrid to his signature, cracked a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly against Arsenal.

In the same match, Rasmus Hojlund sustained an injury that kept him out of action for the start of the 2024/25 season – but Yoro’s injury was far worse.

United needed a boost after Harry Maguire confirmed that he is set for a spell on the sidelines having come off at half-time of the scoreless draw against Aston Villa on Sunday.

They’ve got one following a social media update from new signing Yoro. The 18-year-old uploaded a video to Instagram showing himself back running on a treadmill with the caption: “On the way back.”

Up until now, Ten Hag has not given any specific date for when he expects Yoro to be available. He has confirmed that the defender is making progress in his recovery.

Speaking about Yoro’s injury in late September, Ten Hag said (via the Manchester Evening News): “It is very pleasing that his rebab is going in the right direction, and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon, is that he is now in the right planning process.

“He is in the right spot and he will return as soon as possible into the squad and then the team training.”

Leny Yoro will be a huge boost to United when he returns

Although United are keeping more clean sheets this season, with Andre Onana credited with four in the Premier League, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt were both dropped for the draw at Villa Park.

Martinez hasn’t started the new season strong and De Ligt is still adjusting to his new surroundings.

With that in mind, there is an opportunity waiting for a young defender of high potential to come in and push for a place in the team.

I have no doubt that Ten Hag will be looking forward to working with his new centre-back.
