Despite a difficult 2024/25 campaign for Manchester United, Leny Yoro stood out like a beacon in the darkness for Ruben Amorim’s side.
From excelling in his favoured right centre-back position in a back three to stunning on the left in Lisandro Martinez’s absence, the Frenchman was certainly a revelation.
It is easy to forget that he is still only 19. The former Lille star has been a regular feature in the Premier League this season as well.
And now, Rio Ferdinand has lavished praise on the France U21 international, claiming he has all the tools to go right to the top.
The United legend told Andy Mitten on the United We Stand YouTube channel that even he does not know how high the ceiling is for Yoro.
However, like all youngsters, the centre-half will also not be immune from making the occasional mistake, so he urged for patience from the fans.
“I love him. I don’t know where is ceiling is, but he could be anything. He just needs the pieces around him as well to help him as a young kid.
“But I think he has the nucleus of all the right traits to be a top centre half and he will be because he wants to be as well.
“He’s a hard worker and he’s diligent, but he needs time as well.”
United fans will be glad INEOS overcame Real Madrid’s challenge to land the French wonderkid last summer. The best is certainly yet to come from him.
United return to Premier League action after the international break on Sunday, with a blockbuster clash against Manchester City.
Yoro, who is currently representing France U21 team, will be expected to play a leading role if Amorim is to emerge victorious against Pep Guardiola.
