Liverpool’s transfer team will be keeping a close eye on the latest manoeuvres at St James’ Park. Newcastle’s fresh €80M+ offer for Benjamin Sesko signals more than just ambition, it hints at a possible release valve in the ongoing Alexander Isak saga.

According to The Athletic, the Magpies have tabled an improved bid for Sesko after their opening proposal of €75M plus €5M in add-ons fell short. While the precise amount of the new offer has not been disclosed, it is expected to exceed €90M.
Manchester United are also in the race, but Newcastle now appear to have taken pole position. With no confirmed bid yet from Old Trafford and positive talks reportedly held between Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and both Sesko and RB Leipzig, the Tyneside club are pushing hard to land their man.
If successful, this could trigger a domino effect. Isak, who did not travel with Newcastle on their pre-season tour and instead trained at Real Sociedad, is seen as one of Liverpool’s top attacking targets. The Swede’s absence from the squad has only intensified speculation.

Eddie Howe attempted to downplay the situation, stating: “He’s like any other player, we would expect him to come in and train as normal.” But when asked about Liverpool interest, his response was careful: “Not as far as I know.”

Howe also issued a pointed reminder of squad discipline, saying: “The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad, you have to act in the right way. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.”
Liverpool had a £110M bid rejected last week and are not currently expected to return with a higher offer. That could change swiftly if Sesko’s arrival gives Newcastle both a financial and footballing reason to part with Isak.

Timing will be crucial. Should Newcastle seal the Sesko deal, Liverpool could find themselves in a much stronger position to revisit talks for the Swedish forward. For now, it is a case of wait, watch, and be ready.
There is genuine excitement rippling through the Liverpool fanbase. This Sesko bid might just be the key to unlocking a long-desired move for Isak. Supporters know how rare it is for a top-class striker of his profile to even be within reach.
The refusal to go beyond £110M last week felt cautious, even frustrating. But if Newcastle secure Sesko, they will have both an on-pitch replacement and potentially the Financial Fair Play motivation to consider further sales. That’s where Liverpool can step back in.
The fact that Isak stayed behind during Newcastle’s tour and was training in Spain adds more weight to the feeling that something is brewing. Fans aren’t naïve, they’ve seen this type of pre-move choreography before. The key now is for Liverpool to act fast if the opportunity reopens.
