Liverpool loanee Emilia Szymczak has been recalled by parent club FC Barcelona.

The Reds announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 19-year-old Polish international was set to spend the remainder of the season with Liverpool but she returns to parent club Barcelona ahead of schedule. Szymczak sustained an injury whilst on international duty before the winter break and she will now continue her rehabilitation back in Spain.

In her time on Merseyside, the defender made one appearance for Liverpool which came as a substitute against Sheffield United in the group stage of the Subway Women’s League Cup.

Szymczak started her career in her native Poland with Górnik Łęczna. She was snapped up by Spanish giants Barcelona in 2023 and has progressed in their B Team. She won the Spanish Primera Federación with Barcelona B in 2023/2024. The player is yet to break into Barcelona’s first team and she joined Liverpool on loan to build her experience playing at the top level.

Liverpool continue their season without Szymczak when they travel to The Hive to face London Bees in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon. The Reds are expected to come out on top against their lesser-ranked opponents.
