It promises to be a summer of big change on the wings for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah has left the club after he reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. And there remains uncertainty around other wingers - in particular Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and new head coach Andoni Iraola need one-v-one quality out wide for the season ahead.

That priority was acknowledged in the form of a bid worth up to €100m for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande - who now looks likely to join Real Madrid instead.

Bradley Barcola in Liverpool's crosshairs

The 2024/25 Premier League champions will instead need to move down their list of targets with a deal for Bradley Barcola now in the Reds’ sights.

Paris Saint-Germain value the 23-year-old at a mammoth £145m - and Hughes will need a discount on that potential record-shattering fee before a move is concluded.

Liverpool offered chance to sign Ibrahim Mbaye

Liverpool have also been given the chance to sign another PSG player in the shape of Ibrahim Mbaye. That’s according to a report in TEAMtalk which claims the 18-year-old has been steered away from Aston Villa by his entourage.

“PSG’s teenage sensation Ibrahim Mbaye has been offered to both Liverpool and Manchester City after his agents made it clear why he won’t be joining Aston Villa this summer,” the report reads.

“Liverpool‘s recruitment staff have tracked Mbaye’s progress closely during his time in Paris and are continuing to assess a number of wide attacking options as Richard Hughes looks to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s squad following Mohamed Salah’s departure.”

Liverpool turn down chance to sign Ibrahim Mbaye

Mbaye has risen through the youth ranks in Paris - being part of the squad which has won two Champions League titles as well as two French Ligue 1s.

But there is speculation mounting that the Senegal international will be leaving this summer as his contract only extends until 2028.

The 18-year-old is on the radar for several Premier League and European teams but the report also states that Liverpool is NOT expected to be his next destination.

“[Liverpool do not] currently view him as one of their leading winger targets,” the report states.

“Liverpool’s priority remains Bradley Barcola, while the Reds continue to monitor several other high-profile options across Europe.”

In the case of Mbaye Liverpool would be paying for his potential having made only 10 starts in the French top flight last season and barely figuring in the Champions League.

The attacker is equally comfortable either side of the attack and will provide a versatile, promising option for his next employers.
