Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League tonight in a glamour tie at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side welcome the Champions League holders to Merseyside this evening, in a rematch of the 2018 and 2022 finals. Liverpool have won 13 of their last 14 games in all competitions and have taken maximum points from their four Champions League games.
The Premier League leaders are full of confidence after extending their advantage at the top of the division with a win at Southampton at the weekend.
Real Madrid, however, have been a familiar foe for the Reds. The Spaniards have not lost to Liverpool in the last eight meetings between the teams. However, Carlo Ancelotti is contending with a number of key absentees, including Vinicius Junior.
Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in the Liverpool squad this evening but hopes not to call upon the right-back, who will start on the bench. Alexander-Arnold picked up a hamstring injury against Aston Villa before the international break. The 26-year-old sat out England’s games in November and the Reds will not want to rush his return, with a looming clash against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Alisson Becker is back in training but unlikely to return to the starting side this evening, while Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa remain out.
Slot started with Luis Diaz in a central role for the 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen last time out in Europe and could opt for the Colombian at centre-forward again. Diaz started on the bench at Southampton on Sunday with Darwin Nunez unconvincing at St Mary’s.
Liverpool: Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo.
Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday 27th November 2024. Kick-off at Anfield is 8pm GMT.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and Discovery+.
