Liverpool’s scheduled pre-season friendly against Preston North End this Sunday is delicately poised. The fixture, due to kick off at 3pm BST, may yet be played or postponed, with final decisions resting on how players and staff feel following the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the match will be shown live on ITV, a decision that was made “long before” the devastating news surfaced. “It is stressed that ITV’s broadcasting of the match, which now carries far greater meaning and public interest should it indeed take place, is sadly an unfortunate coincidence,” the report read.
Should the game proceed, football will feel secondary on a day loaded with emotion. Tributes are expected to be paid to Jota and his family, turning what was intended to be a routine summer fixture into a moment of collective reflection and support.
For those watching live on TV, this will not be a typical friendly. It will be a poignant show of unity, broadcast across the country.
