Lazio patron Claudio Lotito unveiled the outlines of the Stadio Flaminio project in a special ceremony held at Formello on Tuesday morning.
The Biancocelesti have been keen on building their own stadium, and in recent years, they have identified the currently defunct Stadio Flaminio as the best viable solution. The Italian capital club presented a renovation project to the municipality of Rome, which received the initial approval of the mayor.
In recent days, Lazio sent their detailed project to the municipality along with the required documents, and they have now decided to share it with the public through a special presentation. As La Lazio Siamo Noi reports, Lotito was the first to take the stage, reading a prepared speech that began by explaining the importance of the project, not only for the club, but for the entire city.
Good morning everyone. I would like to thank the representatives of the institutions, the professionals who worked on the project, the media, and all those who chose to attend or connect through the various formats provided by our Media Company. Today we are not simply presenting a construction project. We are presenting a vision. The redevelopment of the Stadio Flaminio is not just about S.S. Lazio. It concerns Rome, its urban history and its ability to look to the future with responsibility. We are intervening in a context of great historical and architectural value, born with the 1960 Olympic Games. The Stadio Flaminio is not an isolated structure. It is part of an urban system with a long-established sporting and cultural vocation. Our objective is to regenerate an area that today shows clear signs of decline, restoring quality, functionality, sustainability and public safety.
The Lazio president insisted that the plan took into consideration various aspects, including the environment and the traffic jam in the construction area.
We have addressed the issue of mobility with seriousness, fully aware of residents’ concerns. The project includes the relocation of parking facilities outside the neighbourhood, the strengthening of local public transport, incentives for pedestrian and cycle mobility, and the transformation of the area into an environmental island. On the environmental front, the intervention will lead to a significant increase in green spaces and tree coverage, with a green belt around the stadium and more than 57,000 square metres of innovative paving designed to help reduce pollutants. The project also includes specific technological solutions aimed at significantly reducing noise impact, in full respect of nearby homes and the surrounding urban fabric
We are ready for discussion. We are ready to listen. We are ready to explain every aspect of the proposal with transparency. Because a project of this importance cannot be imposed. It must be built with responsibility, respect for institutions and a long-term vision.
The under-fire president also opted to address the ongoing conflict between himself and the organized fan groups, who have been boycotting the club’s home games in an attempt to force him to sell the club. Lotito thus took the opportunity to explain himself and try to bury the hatchet.
Allow me a word for our supporters. I know the debate has been intense in recent months. I listen to every opinion, even when it is critical. My character—whether for better or worse—sometimes leads me to speak very frankly. It can happen that certain statements are interpreted differently from how I intend them. But every decision I make is guided solely by the good of Lazio and always inspired by the heart. When the future of Lazio is discussed, emotions run high. And that is only right: passion is the soul of this club. But precisely because Lazio is passion, it must also be responsibility. This project is not meant to divide. It is meant to build something that will last. Every supporter dreams of a full, modern, identity-defining stadium. I dream of it too. But dreams must stand on the legs of sustainability, respect for the rules and economic balance. Lazio must grow without jeopardising what has been built in recent years: stability, solidity and continuity. Judge the project for what it is: an intervention that improves an area currently in decline, that brings green spaces, sustainable mobility and urban quality, and that gives Lazio a home consistent with its history. We can debate, compare views, even criticise. But let us not lose sight of the common objective: leaving Lazio and the entire city something solid and lasting.

The 68-year-old also teased the five-year club project titled ‘Lazio 2032’, which will be unveiled in March.
During the next international break we will present “Lazio 2032 – The Responsible Dream”, a strategic conference outlining the club’s future path. On that occasion, together with the consulting firm Deloitte and LUISS University, we will illustrate a five-year industrial plan based on economic sustainability, asset growth and sporting competitiveness. The stadium is one piece of the puzzle, but the vision is broader.
Moreover, Lotito revealed his intention to have the Stadio Flaminio ready for Euro 2032, which will be hosted by Italy and Turkiye.
The choice of 2032 is no coincidence. It represents a timeframe consistent with European sporting trajectories and with the outlook linked to the European Championships. S.S. Lazio has already formally expressed its interest in having the Stadio Flaminio considered among the potential host venues. This is neither a promise nor a forced move. It is an act of responsibility and vision: placing Rome and the Flaminio in a position to take part in a major international event, should the technical and institutional requirements allow it. We are aware that the process of allocating venues will be competitive and that multiple bids are expected in our city. Precisely for this reason, we want to approach the matter with method, transparency and planning. “Lazio 2032” will be an open forum with institutions, partners and supporters, aimed at building a serious and constructive dialogue about the club’s future and the role we intend to play for the city.
Finally, Lotito was asked how he intends to finance this project, and he insisted that it will be funded by the sponsors.
The stadium will be self-financed through sponsorships. We want a transparent discussion; this will be a facility that serves the community.
