With idol Deives retired, Corinthians futsal are seeking new on-court leaders. Lucas Martins expects to take on more responsibility while insisting the team identity remains collective.
According to Meu Timao, the fixo wants to support younger team-mates and pass on his experience, and while stepping up appeals, he stresses the group should represent Corinthians.
He believes his biggest contribution is to share what has worked for him. He adds that becoming the face of the club would be attractive, yet says the side's collective work and winning matter most.
Lucas finished last season as the team's second top scorer with 22 goals in 42 games, three fewer than Deives. The tally covers friendlies, the Liga Nacional de Futsal and the Campeonato Paulista.
Under head coach Fernando Malafaia, Corinthians' first assignment of the new season, with Lucas involved, is on 5 March at 16:00 against Carlos Barbosa. The match takes place at Ginásio Perinão in Rio Grande do Sul, opening the Super Copa Gramado.
