Luis Diaz says he is proud of everything he achieved at Liverpool after leaving the club to sign for Bayern Munich.

The Colombia international has signed a four-year deal with the German champions, as his three-and-a-half-year stay at Anfield comes to an end.

Liverpool accepted Bayern’s bid of £65.5m over the weekend after rejecting their initial offer of £58.6m earlier this month. Diaz was subsequently given permission to have a medical with the club.

The 28-year-old went on to win four trophies during his time on Merseyside, including last season’s Premier League title under Arne Slot, having joined the club from Porto in January 2022. He would score 41 goals in 148 appearances, 17 of which came in his final campaign.

In an Instagram post confirming his exit, Diaz thanked his former side for helping achieve his dreams, as well as paying tribute to former teammate Diogo Jota, who sadly passed away at the start of July.

“I arrived with all the dreams in the world, and I am leaving proud of everything we achieved together,” Diaz said.

“I have met incredible people, fabulous colleagues, coaches who helped me a lot, and extraordinary fans. Liverpool is, indeed, a special team, and I will keep everyone in my heart.

“It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled, and, most of all, to be leaving a champion. It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way.

“I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. I will never forget him. We will never forget him. Thank you for everything.”

Diaz becomes Vincent Kompany’s third signing of the summer, after Bayer Leverkusen captain Jonathan Tah and Hoffenheim’s Tom Bischof. Liverpool have now made around £115m from player sales this summer.
