Luis García has taken charge of Deportivo Madryn for the second half of the Primera Nacional, replacing Cristian Díaz as head coach. Díaz departed after the draw with San Telmo and has become sporting director.
According to SuperDepor.com, García arrived in Puerto Madryn on Wednesday, toured the Abel Sastre with president Ricardo Sastre, then met the squad to outline his approach and aims.
The 38-year-old has impressed in the division, overachieving at Deportivo Maipú and energising Atlanta, with his latest post at Nueva Chicago earlier this season.
He led his first session on Thursday morning and began work for Sunday’s home game against San Miguel, on matchday 18.
García spoke of joy and pride at the challenge, telling players that pedigree alone does not make a team, and that daily work must translate into weekend performances.
He said the objective with this squad is promotion, while stressing that focusing only on the end goal, rather than building day by day, risks turning every match into a struggle.
Germán Mandarino joins as assistant, with Lucas Nava and Ezequiel Monzón in charge of fitness. Now come three consecutive home games, San Miguel, then Los Andes on 21 June in a rescheduled fourth-round fixture, followed by Colón de Santa Fe.
Up to four additions for the second half will be assessed during training, alongside possible departures, and talks are advanced with a former Madryn player previously coached by García.
