Senne Lammens was finally granted his Manchester United debut over the weekend, being deployed between the sticks for Saturday’s clash with Sunderland.

Despite welcoming the shot-stopper to his ranks on deadline day last month, Ruben Amorim had opted against utilising him for the fixtures against Manchester City, Chelsea and Brentford, instead trusting Altay Bayindir to get the job done.

It seems as though Amorim had been waiting for what was, on paper, a slightly friendlier contest to introduce the 23-year-old to the fold. As such, he chose to do so against a newly-promoted side.

A commanding showing at Old Trafford culminated with Lammens claiming United’s first clean sheet of the season at the first time of asking. He has now levelled Bayindir’s clean-sheet record in the top flight, having made nine fewer appearances.

What’s more, the Belgian earned the highest rating of any player on the pitch across both teams, finishing his maiden outing with a stellar 7.8 rating on Sofascore.

He made three saves in total, including two inside the box, completed two high claims and one clearance.

Such a stellar display didn’t go unnoticed by one Real Madrid icon, either.

Thibaut Courtois reacts to Lammens debut

When United shared highlights of Lammens’ shift on Instagram, his compatriot, Thibaut Courtois, responded in the comments.

Lammens has yet to feature for the senior Belgium team, although he has previously been called up to the squad.

There’s no doubt that he’ll be eyeing the No.1 spot as 33-year-old Courtois approaches the latter stages of his career. That being said, the two-time Champions League winner is showing no signs of slowing down just yet.
