Manchester United are reportedly negotiating a deal with Al-Wahda who are interested in young winger, Sam Mather.

The 21-year-old is an academy product of the Red Devils who spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Tranmere. He also had a brief spell at Rochdale between February and June 2024.

This season, the Salford native returned to Carrington, and he’s been featuring for Man Utd’s U21 side. He made two appearances in the Premier League 2, contributing with two assists in the process.

United winger Sam Mather could join Al-Wahda this weekend

On Thursday, it was revealed that Mather was called up by Ruben Amorim to join the first team’s training in a surprising move. This was mainly because of the lack of options on the wings, especially with Noussair Mazraoui suffering a new physical problem.

But despite Mather’s involvement with the senior squad, he could leave United by the end of the week.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Premier League giants are currently in talks with Al-Wahda, who have 48 hours left to seal the deal. The Emirati club has been informed of the deadline by Man United, who made their stance clear.

Man United insist on adding buy-back clause

As the source explains, MUFC are keen to insert a buy-back option, as they wouldn’t want to lose control over the player’s future. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Al-Wahda will consent to the clause.

Mather was close to sealing a permament transfer to Kayserispor earlier this summer, but his move to Turkiye eventually collapsed.

This year, several Man Utd stars earned their first-team debuts under the guidance of Amorim, including Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven and Harry Amass. But due to the limited spots in the squad and the lack of midweek action, several young players will be offloaded.
