Stefan Ortega has revealed the impact of Scott Carson on his decision to sign a new contract with Manchester City.

The 31-year-old is preparing to start his third campaign at the Etihad Stadium, having chosen to sign a new one-year contract extension to remain at Manchester City, despite initially stalling contract talks.

Ortega signed a new deal until 2026 in June, becoming the second Manchester City first-team shot-stopper to sign a new contract, following Scott Carson agreeing an extension until 2025.

The German goalkeeper made 20 appearances for Manchester City last season, and started both the defining Premier League finale clash against West Ham and Emirates FA Cup Final loss to Manchester United in May.

Ortega also started at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid and in a crucial clash against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, as well as featuring against both Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premier League.

The shot-stopper has continually challenged Ederson for the first-choice spot, and is set to continue his attempts to unseat the Brazilian this season, after choosing to remain at the Etihad Stadium instead of pursuing alternative options.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ortega revealed that advice from Carson influenced his decision to remain in east Manchester.

“And then like Scott told me – the grass isn’t always greener in other places. I think that’s true. Obviously I played a lot of games in the last two years, I think I’m not finished here,” said the 31-year-old.

“You don’t want to move again, to bring your family into a situation where you have to adapt again. We obviously feel really happy here in Manchester. There’s a lot more to do for me. You’re here in one of the best three clubs in the world right now. It’s not easy to leave.”

Ederson is also set to remain at Manchester City for the new season, after a move to the Saudi Pro League failed to materialise.
