Despite a growing feeling in some quarters that Bernardo Silva could be set for a Manchester City exit at the end of the season, a new development has emerged.
The Portugal international has been at the centre of speculation for several weeks, with interest regularly surfacing from across Europe and beyond over the last few summer transfer windows in particular.
As one of the longest-serving players of the Pep Guardiola era, Bernardo Silva’s future has increasingly come under scrutiny as Manchester City enter a period of squad evolution following the departures of several senior figures.
Having arrived from AS Monaco in 2017, Silva has gone on to establish himself as one of the most influential players in the club’s modern history through tactical intelligence, versatility, and durability, making him indispensable under Pep Guardiola.
With Silva’s current contract due to expire at the end of the season, links to Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, and Saudi Pro League clubs have all emerged at different stages, fuelling perception that City may be approaching a natural parting of ways.
However, according to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City are in ‘ongoing talks’ with Bernardo Silva over the possibility of a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.
It is claimed that manager Pep Guardiola is keen to keep the Portugal international at the club beyond his expiring contract at the end of the season, and views the midfielder as one of the first names on the team-sheet.
The Manchester City captain is expected to have plenty of offers elsewhere – both in January on a pre-contract agreement and as a potential free agent next summer – but the Etihad Stadium’s project remains very important to him, according to report.
Looking ahead, the coming months are likely to prove decisive in determining whether Bernardo extends his stay or prepares for a new chapter. City’s reported willingness to enter talks suggests there is still a strong desire on both sides to explore a compromise.
From Silva’s perspective, the decision may hinge on balancing long-term sporting ambition with personal considerations, particularly after nearly a decade of sustained success in England.
While opportunities abroad remain attractive, few environments offer the stability, competitiveness, and familiarity of Guardiola’s Manchester City. For City, securing Silva’s future would reinforce leadership within the squad, ensuring that one of the club’s defining figures remains central to the next phase of the project.
